About a year ago, Liz Phair started dropping hints about a new album titled Soberish — her first new release in over a decade — and today, she's sharing some new material from the forthcoming record in the form of a single titled "Hey Lou."
In addition to the new Brad Wood-produced single, Phair has shared a music video featuring puppet versions of the song's protagonists, Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson.
"Have you ever wondered what love looks like for your favourite celebrity couple behind closed doors?" Phair said in a release. "'Hey Lou' imagines a day in the life of two music legends, whose union was an inspiration for rock bands and a source of curiosity for diehard romantics."
In early 2020, Phair announced that she'd be taking Soberish on the road with Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill anniversary tour. That tour never came to fruition due to the pandemic, which appears to have affected the album's release schedule.
Soberish is set to arrive through Chrysalis Records sometime this year. Previously, Phair shared its lead single "Good Side" back in 2019.
Watch the video for "Hey Lou" below, where you'll also find her previously rescheduled tour dates. The dates are set to start in June and include a long string of Canadian stops, including an appearance at Ottawa Bluesfest.
And while it's unclear if the concerts will actually take place, you can see the ambitious schedule below.
Phair will be performing via her first ever streaming event, called "Hey Lou Hey Liz," on March 3. You can get tickets here.
