Since Lou Reed's death last year, fans have remembered the late Velvet Underground legend with a lavish reissue, a documentary and pizza-themed parodies. Soon, we will have a chance to get our hands on some one-of-a-kind artifacts from the songwriter's iconic career, as pieces of his equipment are being auctioned off.
A post on Reed's Facebook page notes that "his most important guitars, amps, and effects" will remain under lock and key, but other pieces of gear will be sold. There are already seven items up on eBay: three keyboards, a couple of pre-amps and power supplies for effects pedals and a rack-mounted distortion. Bidding on these items is open for the next week (until June 24).
According to Facebook, new items will continue to be posted every few days. All of these were kept at his Sister Ray Enterprises and were used by Reed and his band.
There will also be select items available for local pickup in New York prior to being listed on eBay (we're guessing that these are going to be large items that will be difficult to ship). Sign up to receive updates about these items here.
Proceeds from the sales will go towards building a Lou Reed Archive. It remains to be seen what this Archive will entail, but fans can keep checking back to eBay for the chance to buy some of Reed's gear.
