It's been five years since Luciano dropped an album, but the release of Tribute to the Sun sees the Swiss/Chilean musician capitalizing on lengthy tracks and a novel hybrid between minimal house and dance floor beats. Tribute to the Sun reflects a dizzying number of influences, each a puzzle piece in the development and sustainability of the album. Sounds of the Caribbean and Middle East, bleepy electronics and Latin vibes are all immersed in the minimal style the album rides on. Tribal singing, hand claps and a rolling bass line usher in euphoric opening track "Los Ninos de Fuera" before sliding into "Celestial," a slowly swelling track that samples "Liberty" by Keren Ann. Luciano then jumps right into "Sun, Day and Night," which is filled with climbing bass and features vocals from former Tricky collaborator Martina Topley-Bird. Tribute to the Sun plays nicely with copious amounts of percussion and even delves into glitchy experimental music on the much too short "Pierre For Anni," showcasing Luciano's extensive experience and global influences.
