You can tell right off the bat that Mad Bomber Society is a Canadian band - the influence of the Kingpins and their brand of gangster-theme surf-ska can clearly be heard. On their debut CD, the band blends '80s ska with many different genres, from surf to dub. The band is tight and their horn players are capable of both a short punchy style and more complex solos, and this is showcased throughout the album. My one complaint, however, is that there is nothing groundbreaking on the CD. It's a good, solid debut and, hopefully, this band will continue to mature and develop a style of their own.
