Madlib to Drop an Album a Month in 2010 with Madlib Medicine Show

From Sub Pop to HoZac, a number of record labels have figured out that a great way to showcase a range of artists is by setting up a once-a-month record service via subscriptions. But while those labels showcase dozens of artists, the people at Stones Throw are lucky enough to have one man capable of generating enough content for his own monthly release series: masterful hip-hop producer Madlib.

That's why Stones Throw has announced the Madlib Medicine Show, a monthly series set to be released on 12 CDs or 12 vinyl LPs. As the label explains, "The Madlib Medicine Show will be a combination of Madlib's new hip-hop productions, remixes, beat tapes, and jazz, as well as mixtapes of funk, soul, Brazilian, psych, jazz and other undefined forms of music from the Beat Konducta's four-ton stack of vinyl."

Madlib Medicine Show No. 1 is set for release in January, with an advance web release coming in December. The record, called Before the Verdict, is a 17-track mix of remixed and new material featuring rapper Guilty Simpson. The album is meant as a bit of a preview to the duo's upcoming OJ Simpson album. Fans should also get excited and/or stressed to know that the vinyl edition of this album will be limited and hand-screened.

Following that, Madlib Medicine Show No. 2, called Flight to Brazil, will be "a mixtape of Brazilian jazz, funk, prog rock, folk and psychedelia."

If it was any other producer, we might be worried that he was too busy to finish his other commitments, like, say, the sophomore Madvillain album.
