As the first hip-hop artist inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, Maestro Fresh Wes hasn't forgotten his roots. That's why the MC has announced plans to return to his hometown of Scarborough, ON, next week.
Fresh off his appearance at Drake's All Canadian North Stars, the artist born Wesley Williams has scheduled an event at the Scarborough Town Centre called "Maestro Fresh Wes Takes Scarborough Back to School" on Thursday, August 25.
The event — inspired by his children's book, Stick To Your Vision: Young Maestro Goes to School, co-written with Rhodora Meliton-Vanderpool — is being billed as a "special inspirational event" where the artist will "encourage young students, parents, and educators to aim for an awesome upcoming school year."
"Giving back has always been a part of the iconic artist's DNA, never forgetting where he came from," reads a press release. "Maestro believes given the right support, kids can work through difficulties to greatness."
Supported by Scarborough's Roadsport Auto Group and Scarborough Shooting Stars CEBL team (of which fellow musician J. Cole is a member), the event will see Wes and his team handing out backpacks and notebooks.
DJ Mel Boogie will provide live tunes while Wes signs copies of his book, which will also be available for purchase at the event.
