You may have noticed from the list of Record Store Day exclusives that Magnolia Electric Co. have a new seven-inch coming out. It's called It's Made Me Cry and will offer up four previously unreleased songs. Well, along with helping out the record store folks, this week we found out the release is also benefiting another good cause.
In 2007, one-time Rogue Wave/Magnolia Electric Co. bassist Evan Farrell died in an Oakland apartment fire at the age of 33, leaving behind a wife and two sons. The Evan Farrell Memorial Fund was set up in his honour and now proceeds from It's Made Me Cry will be donated the charity, which benefits Farrell's family. Farrell played on the track "Protection Spells" on the EP, which will go on sale physically at participating RSD locations on April 18 and digitally on May 19.
Along with the new seven-inch, Magnolia Electric Co. have a follow-up to 2006's Fading Trails heading our way. The band recorded the record with Steve Albini last year and it's set to be released by Secretly Canadian in July, with the title Josephine. Main Magnolia Electric Co. man Jason Molina also has a solo ten-inch coming out in conjunction with a new book by artist Will Schaff. Graveface is set to put out that book/record deal, but there's no firm date at this point.
