Make Believe

Make Believe

The band name may be new, but the players will certainly be familiar. Comprising the last touring line-up of Joan of Arc, this is Tim Kinsella’s latest foray into the world of spastic agit pop. Like JofA and Cap’n Jazz before it, Make Believe take traditional pop structures and turn them on their ear. The songs are chaotic and angular enough, but to make things even more urgent, the band recorded this debut EP live off the floor with no overdubs or effects to speak of. Kinsella’s atonal screech is about the only thing that can be a little off-putting at first, but given time, it actually starts to grow on you. Fans of post punk art-core innovators Gang of Four and Pere Ubu will find this joyfully unholy racket especially appealing.
