Mares of Thrace — the Calgary-based doom metal duo of Thérèse Lanz and Casey Rodgers — have announced a new album, previewed today by the single "The Second Stage: Denial."

The Loss drops on May 16 via Artoffact Records, marking the band's label debut. According to a press release, the follow-up to their 2022 comeback record, The Exile, "explores themes of grief, transformation and resilience" as an extension of Lanz's personal journey.

"This song is named after one of Elisabeth Kübler-Ross's stages of grief: Denial," Lanz said of the lead single in a press release. "Musically, it's a tribute to one of my greatest loves — gross, filthy noise rock. It's occasionally been referred to by live audiences as, 'My favourite song was the one where you yelled, and then stopped, and then yelled again.'"
