"It appears my teleportation coordinates were accurate,” reports the low-tone voice of some sci-fi spaceman, as Mark Farina’s mix for Fabric begins. Accurate indeed, if you want to visit the land of funkiness. This mix of what Farina personally calls "hidden gems” of "the techy, jackin’ Chicago/SF side of the house spectrum” brings the man in for another down-to-earth day of work. House music funked up with samples, for education, for fun, and because they sound fucking cool. Farina’s been fixing his records and mixes with train whistles, airplane noises and bird calls since the early days, as well as cool social commentary that simply and optimistically butts heads with the bullshit parts of American society. This record is no exception and offers up some wicked lyrical content while revisiting Farina’s roots. He got his start in Chicago (alongside Derrick Carter, Ralphie Rosario, J Dub and DJ Heather) and his journey continues to the laidback grooves of coastal San Francisco. Past Fabric compilations have featured the Herbaliser and Carl Craig, amongst a widespread crew of talent. The time has come for Farina to give us his best shot and as shots go, this one comes smooth, with a fruit twist.
