Mark Kozelek Finally Releases Another Covers Album

BY Brock ThiessenPublished Oct 20, 2008

If Mark Kozelek has proven anything in his long and storied career it’s that dude has one hell of a knack for tunes that aren’t his, whether they are reworkings of AC/DC, Modest Mouse, John Denver or, hell, even Wings. It’s perhaps for this reason that the Red House Painters/Sun Kil Moon man has announced his next solo effort will once again be one dominated by the songs of others.

On his upcoming release, The Finally LP, Kozelek will be tackling songs by the likes of Will Oldham's Palace Music, Low, Hüsker Dü, Kath Bloom and even showtuner Stephen Sondheim. Also, along with the inclusion of two previously released Kozelek originals, he funnily enough includes a redo of "Bedtime Lullaby” from that wacky kids show Yo Gabba Gabba!, as well as AC/DC’s "If You Want Blood,” which he previously took on for his first solo record, 2001’s What’s Next to the Moon (aka the "AC/DC covers record”).

The Finally LP is due out December 9 on Kozelek’s Caldo Verde imprint but in limited quantities, so you may want to consider doing some preemptive pre-ordering soon.

Here is the tracklisting:

1. "Piano Song”
2. "Finally” [Kath Bloom cover]
