After teasing its artwork on social media this past Tuesday (September 7), Mastodon have officially announced their eighth studio album, Hushed and Grim, out October 29 on Reprise Records.
According to a statement from the band, the 15-track, David Bottrill-produced record was partially inspired by the death of longtime manager and friend of the band Nick John. John passed away in 2018 following a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Along with the album announcement, the band has also shared Hushed and Grim's unsurprisingly intense lead single "Pushing the Tides," which comes attached to a frantic and cinematic video directed by Lorenzo Diego Carrera. Check it out below.
Hushed and Grim is the follow-up to 2017's Emperor of Sand.
