Seriously, we love Vince Guaraldi's Peanuts-approved yuletide classic "Christmas Time Is Here," but this is getting ridiculous. Following recent covers from both Woods and Damien Jurado, smooth Michigan soulsmith Mayer Hawthorne has taken a crack at the track. Thankfully, his jazzy take delivers.
The most traditional of the three versions we've heard so far this week, Hawthorne opts to skip the kids-choir route to deliver seasonal salutations via his mellowed-out, velvet croon before blasting out some tricky ivory runs that would have made Peanuts pianist Schroeder, not to mention composer Guaraldi, proud.
