Megan Thee Stallion has returned — the rap mega-star has shared the video for new song "Cobra," a harrowing, hard-knocking survey of her struggles with depression and fame that rides a staggered, "Crazy Train"-esque riff.
The serpent-heavy video finds Meg crawling from a snake's mouth, shedding her skin and pulling some group choreo in a series of fantastical environments. "Cobra" is Meg's first release from Hot Girl Productions, the rapper's independent music and entertainment entity.
"At night, I'm sittin' in a dark room thinkin' / Probably why I always end up drinkin' / Yes, I'm very depressed / How can somebody so blessed wanna slit they wrist?" she raps at one point, calling out clout-chasing yes-men and a cheating ex elsewhere.
"Cobra" was produced by Bankroll Got It, Shawn "Source" Jarrett and Derrick Milano. According to a press release, Megan also worked closely with guitarist Diggy Lessard to make the song's sharp, staccato beat.
"Cobra" is Megan's first solo release of 2023, and her first new song since dropping Traumazine in August 2022.
This past August, Tory Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion.
