Fortunately for Men Without Hats, what goes around really does come around. While they aren't breaking new ground with their first album in a decade, their '80s synth sound has come back into vogue. And so 30 years after they first hit the charts with "The Safety Dance," the rest of the world has caught up with them once again. Love in the Age of War sounds as expected, even though the only original member left is singer Ivan Doroschuk. At any point, it would be unsurprising for him to declare, "We can dance if we want to." And therein lies the problem: although it's a fun retro record, it's an unnecessary one. There's nothing here that they weren't doing all those years ago and while it doesn't tarnish their reputation, it doesn't offer anything particularly exciting.
