Swedish outfit Meshuggah recently closed out their 25th anniversary tour across North America, but the band will keep the celebration going by issuing a new concert package exploring their twisted, tech metal back catalogue later this year.
The group will deliver their The Ophidian Trek on Blu-ray and as a DVD/double-CD package later this fall via Nuclear Blast. A press release explains that the film compiles footage shot during European and North American legs of their "The Ophidian Trek" tour, as well as an appearance at Germany's Wacken Open Air festival in 2013. The video was shot by Anthony Dubois, while the audio was edited by the band's own Fredrik Thordendal. From there, it was mixed by Daniel Begstrand (Dimmu Borgir, Behemoth) and later mastered by Mats "Limpan" Lindfors (Roxette, Opeth).
The DVD features 15 songs, with the two CDs spreading same live tracks out between two discs. This is Meshuggah's second concert set, following 2010's Alive. "It's been four years since the release of Alive, and with the band celebrating 25 years, we felt that we just had to get another one of these puppies out there," drummer Tomas Haake said in a statement, adding, "Hope you guys dig it, and here's to another 25!! (or maybe just a little less;-) )"
While Meshuggah delivered a series of digipack reissues in 2013, the band have yet to announce plans behind a follow-up of 2012's Koloss.
