Miguel

"How Many" (ruff 1 demo)

It has been a difficult week for the U.S., between the police shooting deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, as well as last night's mass shooting in Dallas. Reflecting on this, Miguel has uploaded a demo of a song called "How Many," which is dedicated to the Black Lives Matter movement.

A note from the R&B singer explains that he's uploaded a rough demo of the cut, with this version having been tracked in a London hotel room early this morning (July 8). Above an echo-slapped guitar line, Miguel hits hard with pensive, painfully sung lines like "How many heartbeats turn into flat lines? How many black lives does it take to wake a change?"

"I cannot wait or stay quiet," he continues. "Change does not come for the silent."

The song, which Miguel has hashtagged with #blacklivesmatter, will be updated "every week until it's complete." You can check out the protest piece as-is below.
