Having contributed to a coronavirus compilation as Owen last month, Mike Kinsella has now announced his first album under the moniker in four years. The American Football frontman will release The Avalanche on June 19 through Polyvinyl.
Nine tracks in length, The Avalanche follows 2016's The King of Whys and was recorded with producer S. Carey (Bon Iver, Peter Gabriel) and engineer Zach Hanson (the Tallest Man on Earth, Waxahatchee).
The effort is said to be the most intense Owen album to date, featuring "devastating lyrics that return to themes of an unravelling marriage and big endings." Album opener "A New Muse" can be heard below.
Kinsella has also tentatively mapped out a tour behind the album, set to begin in Vancouver this July — even though the BC announced yesterday (May 6) that no mass gatherings of any kind would be taking place in the province until a vaccine for COVID-19 was found. Additional Canadian stops have been set for Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto.
As a press release notes, all dates are subject to postponement should restrictions on public gatherings persist, though can you can find a present itinerary below.
Kinsella and his American Football bandmates shared their Year One Demos last year.
