Mike Skinner has hinted that his days as the Streets may soon be coming to an end. Via his MySpace blog, he dropped word that there are just two more albums left in him before he packs it all in, and with new Streets material on the way, his retirement may come sooner than you think.
Skinner said he has nearly completed record number four, the follow-up to 2006s The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living, and told fans to expect a more uplifting, positive album with this one than his previous effort.
"If you like the Streets you are about to experience the peaceful positive vibes that come after a disturbing work such as the last you heard," Skinner said of the record, which he suggested will be titled Everything Is Borrowed.
And if news of one new Streets album wasnt enough, Skinner also said his swan song is already in the works. "The final Streets album (the fifth one) will be dark and futuristic, he said. "This could not be further from the album you're about to hear, but it's what is on my mind at the moment. I feel inspired by the synthesizer exhibition we just visited in Graz [Austria] after the gig we just did."
But Skinner said we arent supposed to know about the darkness that lies ahead since he will be getting all blissed-out and spreading the positive vibes with Everything Is Borrowed. "Of course, I'm not supposed to tell you about this dark vision of the future because I'm about to promote my peaceful coming to terms album.
"I'm told the peaceful one is quite good, although I've heard it so many times that it's just noise to me now. But the really exciting thing for me is the dark Berlin-influenced electronic album that'll come next."
Skinner gave no definite release dates for either of the expected Streets albums.
