Making Contact

While Minutes Unlimited may have just formed earlier this year during the bomb cyclone that pummeled the East coast, the two Brooklyn artists behind the act are hardly new to beat making. Separately, Eliot Lipp and Michna have been making and producing music for well over a decade, and have made a name for themselves with their rich, genre-defying electronic music.

With Minutes Unlimited, the duo made the decision to try their hand at minimal instrumental trap, scaling back on any frills or flourishes and using their knowledge of hardware to work with the limitations of sound. The result, Making Contact, is a four-track release slathered in a grainy high-end soundscape, making efficient use of sampled and re-sculpted source material taken from their first shot at the release.

It's a dark, compact album, its stripped sound novel in its push to sidle up to trap, and an interesting take from the Brooklyn artists.
