Come With Me…

"This is too hot,” declares Sebo K in the first track of this exceptional mix by Misstress Barbara, which sets a groovy electro tone for her to effortlessly dabble into for the duration of this album. Two years since the Misstress’ last release on her home-based Montreal label Iturnem, Come with Me is a mix of deep-tech cuts full of punchy drums and hard edges, perhaps a sample of her sets to come that would undoubtedly consolidate a frenzied dance floor for hours and please any techno aficionados. The middle of the mix builds up to "I Love You,” (produced by the Misstress herself) a song relentlessly wonderful on the high hats, with a fat, distorted bass line that never leaves, and is gracefully punctuated with a distant fading in and out of what sounds like raindrops of static on a hollow tin can. She follows this with explorations into acid territory, featuring the latest release from the Bad Pimps. Next, she reaches back in time throwing down Model 8’s "Lemon 8,” a move that both signals her appreciation for earlier styles of techno, and also speaks to the longevity of her career as a techno DJ/producer. She tempers the agility of "Lemon 8” with Luciano’s remix of Argy’s "Love Dose,” followed by a cut from Donnacha Costello — both producers generally considered from the micro-house vein. The rest of the album noticeably follows this tech-house trend having a more minimal tenor than the first half, a different yet still effective organisation of a mix.
