On the one hand, casting a coyote as the lead in Modest Mouse's new video for Strangers to Ourselves track "Coyotes" seems a little on the nose. That said, the little rust-coloured scavenger gets to ride public transit in the clip, and it's pretty damn adorable.
Apparently based on the true story of a coyote hopping on Portland's light rail system in 2002 (an incident also saluted by Sleater-Kinney), the video is a candid look at a canine's scenic transit ride through the City of Roses. Whether hopping from seat to seat, eyeballing prey, or dozing off and entering an in-the-wild dreamscape, the little furball has its voyage scored by the gentle, folkish flavours of Modest Mouse's new tune.
