British-Nigerian singer Moelogo embraces both nationalities on his euphoric, fresh yet unapologetically traditional sophomore EP, Ìréti, the follow-up to his debut EP, The Baddest.
Both incredibly energetic and aware of its cultural influences, the five-song affair brings Afro-pop, dancehall and R&B genres together seamlessly. "My City" and "Ìréti" are especially R&B-flavoured, reminiscent of the late '90s/early 2000s, and the pan-African melodies are a result of the collaborative process between Moelogo and emerging producer P2J (a play on "protégé"). Throughout, the young producer uses wind instruments and acoustic guitar to complement African beats, making for a satisfying synthesis of tradition and innovation.
