Moon Duo Prep Halloween-Themed 'Horror Tour' EP

BY Alex HudsonPublished Oct 6, 2011

Earlier this year, Wooden Shjips spinoff Moon Duo earned our approval with their album Mazes, which we called "spellbinding psych-rock." Now, the San Francisco-based pair are getting ready to follow it up with a seasonally appropriate Halloween-themed EP. Entitled Horror Tour, it's due out on October 31 via Souterrain Transmissions.

According to an announcement from the label, the band "veer away from the sun-drenched tone of their recent LP Mazes, and towards driving themes from an antique book of spells they discovered at a library sale in rural New Hampshire."

Most of the four-song EP is instrumental, and only the title track contains words. The collection is "characterized by long, meditative explorations that build to a slow burn." It was recorded at home and then mixed at Berlin's Kaiku Studios. Listen to "Horror Tour" right here.

Only 1,000 copies of this limited-edition release will be printed, and will be available on Halloween through the label. Before then, European fans can pick up a copy from the merch table. See Moon Duo's dates over here.
