As previously reported, Motörhead are set to release a new covers album called Under Cöver. Hauntingly, the release includes Lemmy Kilmister singing David Bowie's "Heroes" with the band. Both Lemmy and Bowie passed away within a month of each other, in December 2015 and January 2016, respectively.
Today, we finally get to hear the cover, and it's just as powerful as one might expect. Rather than turn it into an uptempo Motörhead song, the band have maintained its emotional heft while adding their own hard rock flavour.
In a press release, guitarist Phil Campbell said, "It's such a great Bowie song, one of his best, and I could only see great things coming out of it from us.... Lemmy ended up loving our version."
Drummer Mikkey Dee added, "[Lemmy] was very, very proud of it, not only because it turned out so well, but because it was fun! Which is what projects like this should be — fun!"
