The Asian-American hip-hop sensations are back with their anticipated follow-up to Self, Volume 1, their debut that created some heavy buzz in the underground. The trio returns with a solid, but somewhat disappointing follow-up, which is a shame because this crew has a high level of talent and could have really increased their place in the hip-hop game. Everythings present that you would expect from the Mountain Brothers including tight lyrical skills and top production from Chops, but it somehow comes off as flat rather than taking them up a few pegs. Triple Crown is a good record but in a genre that is increasingly becoming more diverse its going to get lost in the shuffle rather than make an important mark for the Mountain Brothers. The talent is clearly there but this three-piece needs to kick it up a notch next time around.
