Mr. Day

French duo Eric Duperray and Bruno Hovart have been working together for the past decade under a variety of pseudonyms, including Metropolitan Jazz Affair and the Dynamics, but it's as Mr. Day that they've made most of their music. Dry Up in the Sun is their second album under that moniker, although there have been quite a few singles and EPs, and it sees them moving even further into classic Northern soul territory. The ten songs that make up the album have authenticity to them ― they could have quite easily been recorded back in the '60s ― but that doesn't always translate into great songs. Much of the record has all the right components ― solid beats, jazzy organ breaks and funky horn sections ― but more hooks wouldn't have hurt. There's still enough good stuff to fill the dance floor, but don't expect to be whistling the songs the next day.
