Municipal Waste

The Art Of Partying

BY Keith CarmanPublished Jul 18, 2007

One of the best bands to come ripping out of the metal scene in years, Richmond, VA’s Municipal Waste temper their restless metal with tongue-in-cheek lyrics and an atmosphere more appropriate to a house bash rather than a concert. It has earned them the reputation as one of the world’s only "party thrash” outfits, a term they are quite pleased with and easily live up to. Marrying the rhythmic prowess of Nuclear Assault with a vocal drive D.R.I. would think their own, the band reside on the metal side of crossover but still kick a heap of sand over the line. Stepping up another notch from the previous glory of Earache debut Hazardous Mutation, tertiary effort The Art Of Partying embraces all aspects of ripping, syncopated riffs and lyrical tomfoolery, albeit with a darker, more experienced voice projecting through. It’s difficult to take tunes such as "Headbanger Face Rip,” "Lunch Hall Food Brawl” and "A.D.D. (Attention Deficit Destroyer)” seriously on a topical note but when hammered out at a vicious pace, and with ten times the vehemence and attitude of any black metal band, it makes this party an all-nighter.
