Long-running Montreal electronic music festival MUTEK is set to take over the city from June 1 to 5 this year, and festival organizers have unveiled details on the final block of free programming and special projects that will take place at this year's edition.
Between announcing the first and second waves of artists, the festival has also added Arcade Fire's Jeremy Gara, Christian Carrière, Dull, Ohm Hourani & Do Mi, Paraphonique and Herman Kolgen to its paid programming.
As for free programming, the festival will host a free outdoor stage at the Parterre of the Quartier des spectacles with sets from local and international names. The stage will open on Thursday (June 2) with performances from Riohv, Vertigo Inc., Blue Hawaii and Frits Wentink, with Ex-Terrestrial, Burundi Index, Booma Collective, Claire and Lee Gamble lined up for Friday (June 3). Saturday (June 4) will see sets from Multi Culti, Peder Mannerfelt, Nautiluss, Machinedrum and Jlin.
On Sunday (June 5), Boiler Room will also be on hand to curate the first event in a series focused on audiovisual artists, while festival passport and weekend pass holders are invited to Parc Jean-Drapeau for a collaborative event with local festival series Picknic.
Apart from performances, MUTEK will once again feature "DIGI_SECTION" events at the Phi Centre, including artist interviews, panel discussions, technology showcases and workshops.
You can find the full festival lineup and details for all of the programmed events at the official MUTEK website.
In other MUTEK news, the festival will be heading to Japan, with an event running from November 2 to 4 at various venues in Tokyo. A press release promises, "Expect the same attention to quality presentations of contemporary electronic and digital artistry with an emphasis on mixing Japanese, Canadian and international talent."
