Ghostly International has gained quite a reputation over the past few years for releasing high-quality, genre-bending electronic music. This digital-only EP, released in conjunction with Moodgadget, is no exception. Mux Mool (aka Brian Lindgren) is an electro hip-hop producer based in Brooklyn, NY, and this new EP features seven remixes from Skulltaste, his debut full-length from earlier this year, and one new track, "Valley Girls." Mool is known for his quirky blend of IDM and instrumental hip-hop, but in the hands of the remixers, it becomes dirtier and woozier. Opening track "Wax Rose Saturday (Remux Edit)" sounds like Machine Drum in a fight with Mouse On Mars ― warmer than its 16-bit album counterpart ― whereas Daso reduces "Enceladus" to a straightforward slice of tech house. And on closing track "Hog Knuckles," Alex B's remix evokes J Dilla. Like any good remix EP, it's more sonically diverse than the album, which is no small feat.
