Aidan Baker released his epic 96-track double-album The Spectrum of Distraction earlier this year, but rather than take a well-deserved break, the prolific Canadian experimentalist has returned to his metal-influenced duo Nadja for a new album. Entitled Dagdrøm, it's due out October 30 through Broken Spine.
Along with Baker and Nadja collaborator Leah Buckareff, the album features drumming by the Jesus Lizard's Mac McNeilly, who also contributed to The Spectrum of Distraction, and the record promises to be as heavy and distorted as ever. However, the PR notes that Nadja have "[tempered] their experimentalism and ambience with a more straightforward 'rock' sound and compositional style."
The songs are reportedly more "concise and structured" than we're used to hearing from the band, with a sound that recalls '80s and '90s noise rock. Sonic touchstones apparently include the Jesus Lizard, Big Black and Caspar Brötzmann Massaker.
Physical copies will be available on CD and vinyl.
