Eventually Neil Leyton won’t wear his Suede influence so blatantly on his suit. Not that being stained by Brett Anderson is a bad thing — it’s just not stylish. Leyton’s sound is similar to Suede’s Dog Man Star period. Unfortunately he just hasn’t developed that “rawk” sound or ooze the glam that Suede have, yet. Down Secret Avenue With The Last Lovers doesn’t sound grand, it sounds like it’s only meant for a small group. If Leyton is going to continue in this style he has to start sounding larger than life.
