Neon Indian

'Era Extraña' (album stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Sep 12, 2011

Always one to generate buzz, Texan chillwaver Neon Indian is returning with his sophomore album Era Extraña. The follow-up to 2009's Pyschic Chasms promises to showcase more of creative mastermind Alan Palomo's trippy synth pop, as well as some new sonic twists and turns. Album track "Fallout" was released as a free download earlier this summer, but you can now stream the new record in its entirety.

Recorded in Helsinki, the LP opens with "Heart: Attack," an instrumental that sets the lo-fi tone for the remainder of the album. Part one of a trilogy, along with "Heart: Decay" and album-closer "Heart: Release," these instrumentals provide experimental, vocals-free breaks from the Era Extraña's otherwise upbeat, poppy tunes like "Hex Girlfriend" and "Future Sick."

As previously reported, Neon Indian will be embarking on a North American tour this fall with Com Truise and Purity Ring. You can see the entire schedule, which includes a few Canadian dates, here.

Will Era Extraña be topping critics' lists like Psychic Chasms did? Listen to the full album below and decide for yourself.

Era Extraña is out tomorrow (September 13) on Dine Alone in Canada and Static Tongues/Mom + Pop in the U.S.

UPDATE: This stream is no longer available.
