Neon Indian

Brooklyn-via-Austin musician Alan Palomo has recorded music under three monikers in the last three years, although the lo-fi, right field electro of his most recent project, Neon Indian, finds him in the right place at the right time. Palomo's debut, Psychic Chasms, channels the zeitgeist of the post-indie rock era into a dozen asymmetrical slabs of sound that come off as varied in concept as they do in approach. Although songs like "Should Have Taken Acid with You" and "Terminally Chill" prod and poke the beat in the same manner as early '80s Italo disco, the majority of Psychic Chasms comes across as surprisingly skeletal and anaemic ― in the best way possible. Upon first glance, Neon Indian's sound can be compared to the firework panache of MGMT. But while MGMT are content showing you just a glimpse of their multicoloured universe, Neon Indian cordially invite you in for a full tour.
