After much patient waiting, the long-running Appleseed Cast have finally ironed out all the details of their upcoming new full-length. On February 17, the atmospheric Kansans' follow-up to 2006's Peregrine is due to drop via the Militia Group, with the band giving their latest epic the title Sagarmatha.
According to front-man Christopher Crisci, this time out "the band wanted to push themselves and veer away from the easy go-to plays," he recently told CMJ, adding that the Cast "tried ideas and incorporated sounds that we normally wouldn't have, but in the spirit of being free, anything went."
In previous interviews, Crisci had hinted Sagarmatha would be a mostly instrumental affair but it seems the group have since abandoned that plan and included hefty doses of tracks both sans-vocals and with Crisci at the mic.
To get a taste of what the Appleseed Cast have cooked up, currently on their MySpace page you can download the new track "The New Stage (For So Long)," which will be included as a bonus track on the vinyl release of Sagarmatha.
Or if you'd prefer to just wait and absorb everything in one big chunk in February, you'll also have a chance to do that live. Along with the album details, the group have announced their first string of 2009 tour dates, which find them only playing a solitary Canadian date in Vancouver on Sagarmatha's February 17 release date.
