It appears Bob Mould is set to get up close and personal on his forthcoming solo album, the appropriately titled Life and Times. Described as honest and personal, the latest offering by the veteran songwriter of Hüsker Dü and Sugar fame is "filled with Mould's experiences in relation to friends, lovers, the world at large and himself," according to a post on his website.
The record, due out April 7 via Anti-, was produced and mixed by Mould in his current hometown of Washington, DC, and promises to drop his recent forays into the world of electronic music for his straight-up rock approach of old, yet from a more emotional, introspective standpoint. Mould's website points to a few specific examples, such as the track "I'm Sorry Baby, But You Can't Stand In My Light Anymore," which is described as "an unflinching look at the sorrow and regret that comes at the end of love," and "Wasted World," a song where Mould "appraises the perils of easy self-distraction."
In related Mould news, he recently announced he's working on an yet-untitled autobiography with Our Band Could Be Your Life author Michael Azerrad. There's no word yet what Azerrad's exact role will be in the project or when it's expected to be released.
