Canadian folk and country fans should start marking their 2011 calendars, as Toronto newcomers New Country Rehab are gearing up for a big year. After releasing their self-titled debut on January 11, the band will head out on a tour that includes seven dates in Canada's eastern half.
The band are made up of singer/fiddle player John Showman, guitarist James Robertson, percussionist Roman Tome and upright bassist Ben Whiteley. For their album, they recruited producer Chris Stringer (Ohbijou, Timber Timbre).
The album promises to be an eclectic mix of styles, as a press release includes descriptions like "post-modern surf-rock," "dub reggae" and "disco-imbued instrumentals." Along with original songs, there are covers of Bruce Springsteen's "State Trooper," Hank Williams Sr.'s "Rambling Man" and the folk classic "Train 45."
Once the record is out, the band will head on a Canadian tour. See the dates below.
