New Damien Jurado Album Set For September

After a good two-year break, folk rocker/Christian solider Damien Jurado is gearing up to drop his next album proper, Caught in the Trees. On September 9, the record will mark " the dawn of a new era for Damien Jurado” (well, according to his label Secretly Canadian), with the Seattle songwriter taking a whole new approach to his lyrical game.

"It is the first time that I have ever written from a personal standpoint unlike in the past, where all of my songs were short stories,” Jurado recently told CMJ. "There is a line in one of the songs where I say, 'How does it feel to be what you sing about?' I'm talking to me."

Jurado spent an entire year crafting Caught in the Trees, which for him was much longer than his usual album process. And like his other recent output, drummer Eric Fisher and multi-instrumentalist Jenna Conrad were also along for the ride. "It was important for me to involve Eric and Jenna as much as possible," Jurado said, "not just because we were now a band, but because these songs were as much mine as they were theirs. Both of them are very talented musicians and songwriters in their own right."

As for touring, Jurado will be heading over to Europe for a small string of dates before returning to North America with a longer, full-fledged tour. Those dates are expected to be announced shortly.
