New Dead Weather Single Surfaces Online

We all know that Jack White has a tendency to drop new recordings with a minimum of fuss and forewarning. Ironically, by forgoing the usual press and promotion associated with new releases he manages to create a bigger media frenzy than ever.

This time, we had five days notice that new music was on the horizon, as we learned last week that the new Dead Weather single was due to be released today (March 23). Sure enough, a video for the song "Die By the Drop" appeared online this morning over at Metacafe. Unfortunately for Canadians, this video can currently only be viewed by those inside of the U.S. Well, unless you're clever enough to work around those regional constraints.

Doubtless the video will leak onto YouTube soon enough. Until then, Some Kind of Awesome is streaming a (probably illegal) MP3 of the tune, which is a fuzz-soaked rager featuring venomous call-and-response vocals from White and Dead Weather band-mate Alison Mosshart. You can also preview the song "Old Many," which will be the B-side of the new single when it's released on seven-inch via Jack's Third Man Records.

We currently don't have a firm date for the new single, but we know that the album is called Sea of Cowards and is reportedly due out on May 7 in Ireland (and presumably May 11 in North America).
