There's no rest for multi-talented songwriter Nick Cave. Just two months after announcing that his second album with Grinderman would be coming out in September, he has already signed on to his next project: writing the screenplay for a remake of The Crow.
According to The Wrap [via The Daily Swarm], Cave was called in to rewrite the script, which had originally been penned by Stephen Norrington (who is also directing the film).
The news comes from producer Ed Pressman, and is an unexpected turn of events, since the movie was originally due to begin filming soon. Pressman previously told MTV, "[We've got an offer out] to a major actor and things are moving ahead very aggressively, with the aim of doing the film this year."
This isn't the first time that Cave has ventured into the world of film. His most noteworthy screenwriting credit is for 2005's critically acclaimed The Proposition. He also cowrote and co-starred in the 1989 movie Ghosts... Of the Civil Dead and appeared in 1991's Johnny Suede alongside Brad Pitt.
Let's hope this new project goes better than the time Cave was recruited to write the sequel to Gladiator; the apparently bizarre result was rejected by the studio.
The original version of the The Crow was released in 1994, and has spawned three sequels, most recently 2005's The Crow: Wicked Prayer. The series is based on the James O'Barr's comic books of the same name.
