Do you love the title track from Nick Caves latest album, Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!? Do you love it enough to buy a whole book about it? Well, if you do, Cave is giving you the chance. On July 8, the Aussie songwriter is releasing a book based on the inception of the song "Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!" and how it inspired him to pen his most recent Bad Seeds record.
The book release, also dubbed Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!, will come as 40-page, four-inch hardback with handwritten lyrics and notes from Cave, photos and of course the story of the song "Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! The book also comes with one of those little three-inch CDs, which often have a way of lodging themselves in your player permanently.
Heres what Cave has to say about his new book:
The little book is about the making of the song "Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! It is a curiosity that deals with the preparation and final glorious outcome of a project that began on the back of an envelope, a literal "scrap of an idea and ended up evolving into a genuine cultural icon and classic rock'n'roll song, due to the collaborative efforts of myself and Brit artists Sue Webster and Tim Noble.
The song, which is a comic re-imagining of the Lazarus myth (placing the recently "risen Lazarus in 70s New York City), is accompanied by an eight-foot-square light sculpture, employing over 750 light bulbs, built by Webster and Noble. This little book documents the journey of this mammoth collaboration. Dig it!!!"
Okay, from this you can likely gather that this whole book thing falls into the wacky category of a Cave idea, but at least its not as weird as him wanting to erect a bronzed statue of himself on horseback.
