Paris GU30

Paris is known for its romantic reputation and culture. Nick Warren’s seventh Global Underground release, based on an October 2006 set at the Mix Club in France’s capital, reveals the dark corners and shades of the city’s spirit. The album begins with some captivating piano and computer-created noises expertly intermingled in "After” by Space Gypsie. Progressing along an ambient, downtempo wave that takes off brilliantly about three tracks in, this is music to chill with. Check out Audioglider’s fluid "Zusammenallien,” Tripswitch’s sloping "Roll Your Own” and Cates & dpL’s awesome "Living in A.” Around halfway through the second disc, Warren ups the tempo from chill to active with the dub-y track "One Thing” by Paradise Rockers and Habersham and Kazell. When the CD ends, we’re left with an optimistic, funky trance note. Nick Warren originally started making music in Bristol, best known for the likes of Tricky, Portishead, Massive Attack and Roni Size. He also toured with the Universe/Tribal Gathering Organization.
