Pop-rap superstar Nicki Minaj had another mega-hit with her 2012 track "Starships." Now, however, dance music artist Clive Tanaka is suing her for allegedly stealing the song from him.
The Chicago Tribune reports that Tanaka, who normally keeps his work and real identity shrouded in mystery, is suing Minaj for lifting his song "Neu Chicago" and repurposing it as "Starships."
In addition to Minaj, the lawsuit also names co-writers RedOne, Carl Falk, Wayne Hector and Rami Yacoub. They're all citizens of Sweden, where "Neu Chicago" was used in multiple television commercials.
"We believe they are similar to the point that it is nearly impossible for it to be a coincidence," said Tanaka's lawyer, Christopher Niro.
To prove his point further, Tanaka shared a SoundCloud file which has both songs layered on top of each other. Check it out below.
