L.A. R&B singer Nikki Jean first teased her Champagne Water EP with a stream of the Ab-Soul-assisted title track, but she's now let the release flow in full. Better yet, the project was delivered today (November 19) as a free download.
The six-song follow-up to her 2011 LP, Pennies in a Jar, reaches for the sky straight away with opener "Icarus," which floats upwards with a fluttery piano and strings arrangement. "Tommy's Song (Hands Up)" turns up even more, with gang chant vocal samples, a hard percussive clack and police critiquing lyrics.
In addition to the elegant R&B boomer "Champagne Water," you can check out the conceptual vocal-layering piece "Worried..." and the easygoing, relationship-disconnecting finale "Cool On You." You can stream the whole set or download it over here.
