Despite plans to starting work on a new album in January of this year, the often-reunited Pixies will not be making a new album, due to bassist Kim Deal's reluctance, says front-man Frank Black. The band - which also includes guitarist Joey Santiago and drummer Dave Lovering - released four albums during their influential first stint, starting with 1988's Surfer Rosa and ending with 1991's Trompe le Monde. Black told The Gothamist that Deal was not interested in a new album. "While I may have tried to convince her otherwise, maybe she's got a point, Black said. "She doesn't need a new Pixies record, so maybe there doesn't need to be one." Black (nee Charles Thompson IV) has just released a new album Bluefinger under his Pixies moniker, Black Francis, while Deal's band the Breeders are working on a new album with Surfer Rosa producer Steve Albini.
