Last week, metalcore fans on the East Coast learned that a package tour featuring Stray From the Path, Obey the Brave and more is heading their way this fall. Opening the trek is Australia's Northlane, and if you weren't familiar with the act already, Canadian imprint Distort is getting ready to release the group's debut LP Discoveries in the Great White North.
Canadian fans can nab a copy of the quintet's ten-song set September 4, just shy of a week before the group head off on "The Eastern Canada Tour." The record had been issued by Down Under label UNFD in 2011.
Formed in Sydney, Australia, in 2008, Northlane are said to deliver "everything that makes heavy music powerful -- the raw energy of hardcore, the technical proficiency of metal and the attention to detail in their songwriting." You can decide for yourself by checking out the video for doomy slowbanger "Dispossession" down below.
"As a musician, listening to progressive metal can be mind-blowing," guitarist Josh Smith said in a statement of the group's heavy blend. "It has so much to offer in the way of how you approach doing what you do. Metal is about more than musicianship, though, through history and in a parallel to the punk movement it's been all about rebellion and standing up for what you do or don't believe in. It's heavy and sometimes that's what you need to get through life, which can be pretty crap sometimes.
"The most awesome thing about hardcore music is the raw emotion you hear in it, and how convicting the message in the music can really be, it really makes you feel something. We love both these aspects from each genre, and along with a whole lot of other stuff we try to combine it all into a formula that works for us."
