Montreal's Notta Comet showed off their green thumbs on last year's Success with Houseplants LP, but now they're ready to show off a different set of skills on a new EP titled Embankments. It's due out next week, but you can give it an early listen in its entirety right now at Exclaim!
On the new set of songs, the experimental three-piece take listeners on a tour of "post-industrial America seen from the windows of a speeding car," letting "sharp, glassy" guitars, and "jittery rhythms" provide the soundtrack. Lyrically, the tri-state area, Amazon warehouses and the Freehold Mall serve as points of reference.
"This album is about the anxiety of watching infrastructure crumble away," the band explained in a statement. "It's about turning and turning in the widening gyre. It's not a serious record. It's a fairy tale of the banal in the style of municipal realism. It's about how there are no achievements in life, there are only processes, and the fact that that is terrifying and also sad."
