Marginalia

Intimacy is often used to describe a moment that is close, private and friendly. This seems like the best noun to also describe the collaboration of Fat Bobby of Oneida and wife Rockie on this side-project. As the album begins, a wobbly three-note melody on the piano is instantly intensified with an array of droning sounds that crash into one another while a cavernous voice trembles over an organ. From there it’s a treat to hear the album develop, as the simple songs are wrapped in experimentation, using instruments such as vox, a wigwam and a toy sousaphone. With a bit of a space rock feel, each song’s throbbing undertone is complemented by both upbeat and downbeat lyrics, exuding a sound that is quite charismatic.
