T-shirts for $2, heaps of post-post-punk bass lines and doses of, at turns, jittery then muscular art rock make for a compelling Saturday night; Toronto heroes the D'Urbervilles had all of the above. Even without the makeup and spastic dance moves of his other band, Diamond Rings, front-man John O'Regan had stage presence to burn. His thick timbre duelled with foil Tim Bruton's sporadic shouts while the rhythm section stomped fantastically along, the combo powering through a sonorous set. Given the strange diversity of the crowd, expect D'Urbervilles T-shirts at vintage shops and yuppie gyms alike.
