NXNE - Man or Astro-man?

The Horseshoe Tavern, Toronto ON June 18

When the NXNE Twitter announced a power outage at the Horseshoe, many feared the worst for the midnight set from '90s surf rock experimentalists Man or Astro-man? Luckily, the band were on stage and rolling by 12:30, at which time goggles-clad bassist Star Crunch (born Brian Causey) took the mic. "Good evening earthlings," he quipped. "It's such an honour to be not frozen." From there, the band took off, creating an aural and visual spectacle that favoured songs (including "Put Your Finger in the Socket") from their first pair of records and featured an onstage array of retro-futuristic junk that looked lifted from a low-budget '70s sci-fi film. It was a show not to be missed, especially for fans who'd waited almost a decade to see Man or Astro-man? once more.
